Adventures in Victoria, BC - Part 1

Jon and I flew out of Montreal at 9am on May 23rd, getting to Victoria 7 hours later, at 1pm local time. Our first adventure, right from the airport, was to go with Carol, Jon's mom, pick up a shed in Sooke, and enjoy a fabulous view of the Sooke Basin. Then we tried to find a bar to watch the Lakers x Nuggets game - which is hard during the hockey playoff season. We finally went to "Knockemback" with Fred, Jon's dad, where they were really nice and switched channels in one of the TVs for us, but the waitress managed to screw up our orders and over charge... Oh, well...

On Sunday, after working on the field for some time planting kale, we took our bikes and went exploring the Galloping Goose Regional Trail - awesome! It's a bike/pedestrian trail that was built were there used to be a railroad. It took us right downtown, to Pandora Street bridge. We wandered around for a few hours, ate some wanna be mexican food at La Fiesta, wandered some more and went back home for Carol's delicious Barbecue chicken stew (cooked with free range farm chicken). Then bed, please!

Monday we went to the Royal Roads University Campus, again taking the Galloping Goose all the way there. The Hatley Castle, the main building of the university, was the shooting location for X-men. Jon and I took the chance to chill out a bit on the Croquet Lawn before heading back home for some more work on the field, this time digging a trench to plant leeks.

Tuesday was when we visited the Gorge lagoon and took a nice ride along its shore - quite short but pleasant - before heading downtown for some more sightseeing and eating. This time we went to a really nice restaurant called Ferris Oyster bar, where they serve much more than just oysters (which are not my first choice, I must confess my lack of refinement). I had the Pan Seared Salmon Fillet and Jon had the Bouillabaisse, both of them were exquisitely delicious. We had read some good reviews about the food, but alerting us about the slow service. They were not slow at all, in fact, they were so fast we couldn't even start our basket of mixed sweet potato and regular fries.

We finished the day off by taking the Galloping Goose all the way back home in pitch dark - I was terrified. It was not so bad, since the trail is very well kept and we weren't in risk of falling in some unseen hole.
